7th Annual Pack 10 Pinewood Derby

Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Adolphus Elementary from 12:30 – 4:30

Pinewood Derby Cars

At the Pack 10 Holiday Party, each Scout should have received a car-kit which includes a rectangular block of pine wood, 4 nails and 4 wheels. Along with their parent or trusted adult, they will turn their kit into an awesome car of their own design.

If you have not received your car-kit, contact your Den Leader.

Races will be divided up into 4 Divisions. Division I will be Lions. Division II will be Tigers. Division III will by Wolves and Bears. Division IV will be Webelos and AOLs. Each Scout will run 4 races against their Division. The top 4 cars in each Division will then run 4 additional races to determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place for their Division. The winner from each Division will race to decide the top honors of fastest in the Pack.

In addition to the fastest times, certificates will be awarded based on many different categories for you to channel your creativity! Click here for the Award Categories.

Before Race Day

Den Leaders may arrange a Pinewood Derby workshop for any Scouts needing assistance with designing and cutting their blocks. At home, they will be able to complete their design with paint, decals, etc. as they wish.

Bring your numbered stickers included in your car kit to check-in but do not use the numbered stickers until instructed to do so by the check-in crew.

Check-in Days

Scouts have two opportunities to check in their cars:

– January 26 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at our regularly scheduled Pack Meeting (Adolphus)

– January 27 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at the Adolphus Elementary Outdoor Classroom which is located behind Adolphus Elementary (See Map).

At check-in, your car will be weighed and measured for compliance. Once they are deemed compliant with race standards, the Scout and the car will be entered in to the race schedule and the car will be impounded in the garage (boxes set aside). REMEMBER TO REVIEW AND FOLLOW THE BSA PINEWOOD DERBY RULES. The check in committee has the right to disqualify any cars not meeting these requirements.

Once cars are checked and qualified, no modifications or access to the cars are allowed. The Pinewood Derby Committee will be responsible for storing all cars until the races.

On Race Day

The Pack 10 Pinewood Derby will be held at Adolphus Elementary (7910 Winston Ranch Pkwy, Richmond, TX 77406).

On race day, the cars will be organized into their Divisions and the heat schedule will be auto-generated by the computer. Each car races 4 times – once in each of the 4 lanes on the track. Based on their fastest 3 times, the top 4 cars in each Division will then run 4 additional races to determine 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place for their Division.  At the end of the day, overall winners from the Pack will be determined based on the average fastest times from their Division races. The winner from each Division will race to decide the top honors of fastest in the Pack.
